Das Urteil in voller Länge in englischer Sprache:

Matthew Pelech of EC Panaceo VSV has been suspended for two games as a repeat offender after a boarding incident in the game against EC Red Bull Salzburg on Friday.

In the home-game against EC Red Bull Salzburg on Friday, October 5th 2018, time 26:12, Matthew Pelech (#21) of EC Panaceo VSV was involved in an incident deemed by the on-ice officials as Boarding (IIHF Rule 119). The video evidence was sent to the EBEL Player Safety Committee (PSC), which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline – Category 1 – ‘Careless’.

According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the EBEL PSC, player Matthew Pelech (#21) of EC Panaceo VSV will receive supplementary discipline under rule 119 – Boarding.

On October 5th, in Villach, an incident occurred involving Villach player #21 Matthew Pelech. A turnover by Villach in the neutral zone, allowed a chip pass to #26 of RBS Salzburg. With play developing in the neutral zone, #26 of RBS Salzburg dished the puck back towards the center ice area, while located a considerable distance from the boards and a distance far enough from Matthew Pelech that Matthew Pelech had time to alter or minimize contact. Instead, Matthew Pelech removed his bottom hand (right arm) from his stick, elevated his right arm and used the right arm to make and create excessive force – taking advantage of the opportunity to create excessive force vs reducing or minimizing force. The force propelled the opposing player excessively into the boards. Although there was no apparent injury on the play and the opposing player continued playing – this style of check has a high potential to create an injury. This is deemed illegal and boarding due to the intent, excessiveness and the use of the arm to inflict force. Effective immediately, Matthew Pelech (#21) is suspended for 2 games.

Key references:
– Deemed excessive
– Category 1 – ‚Careless‘
– Did not alter or work to minimize contact

From the perspective of DOPS and according to the EBEL Penalty Catalog R ef Nr. 119 – Boarding, Matthew Pelech (#21) of EC Panaceo VSV is suspended for 2 games, effective immediately and fined 500.00 Euros.
