On September 27th in Villach, a cross checking incident occurred involving HC Innsbruck player #63 Braden Christoffer on EC GRAND Immo VSV forward #29 Sahir Gill. A 5 minute + Game Misconduct was assessed by the on-ice officials.
As the video shows; off an end zone face-off, Innsbruck #7 Daniel Ciampini is in puck possession, driving the net, when he is slashed by Villach, #57 Matt Mangene. The slash by Mangene caused a 1 on 1 gathering between Mangene and Ciampini. During the gathering, Innsbruck #63 Christoffer entered the 1 on 1 gathering by cross checking the back of Mangene, which prompted Villach #29 Gill to skate in the immediate area of Christoffer.
The reason for supplementary discipline, was the cross checking action of Christoffer was to the head area of Gill. It can be considered that Christoffer was defending himself. However, it is deemed Christoffer initiated a cause for his possible self protection, with the initial cross check on Mangene. The PSC deemed the cross check as recklessly endangering to the opposing player. Christoffer had the possibility of keeping his stick lower, or the the use of his hands, not his stick. Instead, Christoffer raised his stick in a horizontal manner, deemed cross checking, initially and directly in the head area of Gill.
At no time is a player permitted to take action, deemed detrimental or dangerous, with a high probability of injury. Christoffer must refrain from the use of his stick in the head area of an opposing player.
Effective immediately, Braden Christoffer (#63) of HC TWK Innsbruck „die Haie“ is suspended for 2 games and fined 500.00 Euros.
