Hier geht es zum Original-Urteil:

EC Red Bull Salzburg forward Thomas Raffl got suspended for two games and has to pay a 500€ fee because of an incident deemed as checking to the head or neck in Sunday’s game against the EC-KAC.

Thomas Raffl (#5) of EC Red Bull Salzburg time 30:19, was involved in an incident deemed as checking to the head or neck (IIHF Rule 124). The video evidence was sent to the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League PSC, which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline – Category 1- ‚Careless‘.

According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League PSC, Thomas Raffl (#5) of EC Red Bull Salzburg will receive supplementary discipline under IIHF rule 124 – checking to the head or neck.

On March 29th in Klagenfurt, an incident occurred involving Salzburg player #5 Thomas Raffl and Klagenfurt player #24 Steven Strong, which is deemed checking to the head or neck. A 2 minute penalty was assessed by the on-ice officials.

As the video shows, Salzburg is in puck possession in the attacking zone. At the attacking blue line, a turnover occurs, which creates a partial break for Strong who gained puck possession. The play, which can occur and not a determining factor, is considered abnormal in the sense that a D’man (Strong) has puck possession on an attacking break and on the defensive side, RBS has 2 players (Huber and Raffl) back checking, that are both forwards. Generalization is none of the 3 players involved are in their natural position.
Considering Strong is focused on and playing a 1 on 1 play with Huber and that Strong is a left hand shot with left side puck possession, it can be assumed that Strong is unaware of the positioning of Raffl, who is approaching from Strong’s right side.

The reason for supplementary discipline is due to the check Raffl delivered making contact to the head or neck area of Strong. With Strong attempting a toe drag to set up for a shot and focused on Huber, it is considered Strong was unaware of and could not prepare for contact to his head and neck area. Raffl has the right to make a legal body check on this play. However, as much as Raffl skated to back check and put himself in a good position, he cut in, elevated up and in and made contact to the head and neck area of Strong.

Effective immediately, Thomas Raffl (#5) of EC Red Bull Salzburg is suspended for 2 games and fined 500.00 Euros.
