Der American Football Weltverband IFAF hielt in Canton seinen 18. Jahreskongress ab und versinkt dabei ins Chaos. Nun gibt es zwei Präsidenten und etliche offene Fragen.
In wenigen Wochen beginnt im „Hall of Fame Stadion“ die NFL-Pre-Saison. Dieser Tage hielt der American Football-Weltverband IFAF seinen 18. Jahreskongress ab und versinkt dabei ins völlige Chaos. Nachdem dem „Präsidenten auf Abschied“ Tommy Wiking ein Platz im Präsidium verweigert wurde, zieht der Schwede zum Sitzungsbeginn aus. Ihm folgen weitere Mitglieder des Kongress. Die Anzahl und die Nationalität ist trotz mehrerer übereinstimmender Medienberichte unbekannt. Die Gruppe rund um Tommy Wiking führt in einem anderen Raum eine Abstimmung durch und wählt den Schweden zum Präsidenten. Zum Stellvertreter wurde Robert Huber aus Deutschland gewählt.
Die verbleibenden 19 Mitglieder des eigentlichen IFAF Jahreskongress wählten hinter verschlossenen Türen den Finnen Roope Noronen (Finnland) zu ihrem Präsidenten.
Die Situation macht eine Information pikant, welche bereits vor der Sitzung bekannt war. Aufgrund des Debakels um die abgesagte American Football-WM 2015 in Schweden (Anm.: Laut übereinstimmender Medienberichte ermittelt die lokale Staatsanwaltschaft) wurde Tommy Wiking im Vorfeld des Kongress mitgeteilt, dass er seinen Sessel räumen muss. Der Schwede fand dafür starke Worte und sprach wörtlich von einen „Putschversuch“.
Übrigens der heimische Verband AFBÖ war in Canton nicht vertreten und hat auch keinem anderen Mitglied eine Vollmacht zur Abstimmung erteilt.
Wie es mit dem Weltverband IFAF weitergeht ist völlig offen. Ein Hotel und zwei Kongresse sprechen nicht gerade von „einen einheitlichen Auftreten“. Wer die Football-Community in die Zukunft führt und wer sich hinter welchen Teil des „Weltverbandes“ sammelt wird die Zukunft zeigen.

Roope Noronen Unanimously Elected As President of the International Federation of American Football. Roope Noronen was today unanimously elected as President of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) by member federations attending the 2015 IFAF Congress in Canton, Ohio. The President of the Suomen Amerikkalaisen Jalkapallon Liittro (SAJL – Finnish American football federation) will remain at the helm until the 2016 IFAF Congress, which will elect a President for a four-year term.
The Congress elected Ms. Minette Rogner, President of the Swedish American Football Federation (SAFF) as IFAF Secretary and she will also serve on the IFAF Executive Board. Any reports that suggest different individuals were elected to IFAF positions through the rogue Twitter account ‘IFAFofficial’ are false. IFAF does not control that Twitter account.
Meeting at the 18th annual IFAF Congress in the city where professional American football was first played, were federation representatives of: Australia, Argentina, Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Finland, Great Britain, Israel, Japan, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Serbia, Sweden and the United States.
The Congress endorsed the implementation of new measures and the future revision of the IFAF statutes that will provide greater transparency in all IFAF matters. The IFAF plan of action for 2016, presented by IFAF Managing Director Andy Fuller, was approved by the Congress.
The Bahamas announced that it has submitted a proposal to host the 2016 IFAF Flag Football World Championship, which is played every two years. The IFAF membership agreed to host the 2016 IFAF Congress on a date following the 2016 Olympic Games at a venue to be determined.
The IFAF Executive Board noted the contribution of former President Tommy Wiking, who was among a number of delegates who chose not to attend the 2015 IFAF Congress, despite being present in Canton.

INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF AMERICAN FOOTBALL 2015 CONGRESS
On 17th July the World Congress of IFAF (International Federation of American Football) was held in Canton Ohio (USA). At the congress, the members confirmed that Mr. Tommy Wiking in the Presidency of IFAF and Mr. Makato Kaneuji is Senior Vice President.
The members elected the following people to serve on the Presidium onto 2016 Congress:
Mr. Robert Huber as Vice President
Mr. Marco Cobar as Treasurer
Ms. Janice Ward as Secretary
The members voted to put in place a new Ethical framework consisting of Code of Good Governance Policy, Code of Ethics and Conflict of Interest / Confidentiality Policy
The members also decided that the 2016 Congress will be held in France.
The Presidium would like to tank the members for their support in electing and confirming them and intends to work hard to implement the framework agreed by the members. We believe that this new ethical framework will help underpin its bid for permanent IOC recognition.
The Presidium looks forward to work with all IFAF Members to achieve our goals.
