Für einen Hohen Stock im Heimspiel gegen den EC VSV wurde Stefano Marchetti vom HCB Südtirol vom DOPS für zwei Spiele gesperrt. Der Verteidiger ist in der vorletzten Runde der Qualification Round wieder spielberechtigt.

Der Vorfall ereignete sich nach 17 Minuten im Heimspiel gegen Villach, das die Südtiroler schlussendlich 5:2 gewinnen konnten. Das Players Safety Comittee stufte die Aktion von Stefano Marchetti mit dem Schläger in das Gesicht des Gegenspielers als gefährlich ein, weshalb der Verteidiger für zwei Spiele gesperrt wurde.

Folgende Punkte waren für das Urteil ausschlaggebend:
– Hoher Stock
– Der direkte Kontakt zum Kopf des Gegenspielers
– Wird als fahrlässig und vermeidbar gewertet
– Kein Wiederholungstäter

According to the Arbitrator and after reviewing video evidence, player Stefano Marchetti (#88) of HCB Südtirol Alperia, time appr. 17:02, made contact with an opponent deemed as High Sticking IIHF Rule 143. As per the EBEL Fundamental Rules V. 5,1 (b), video evidence was sent to PSC(IDOPS) for a final verdict.

From the perspective of DOPS, it is clear that Stefano Marchetti (#88) demonstrated a motion on the opposing player that is defined in the IIHF Rule Book as High Sticking.

On February 23rd in Bozen a situation occurred involving Bozen player #88 Stefano Marchetti. The incident was raised to supplementary discipline.

With the puck being shot towards the net by the VSV defense man from the point, Stefano Marchetti was located in the low slot area of his defending zone. Immediately before the puck is shot towards the net, Stefano Marchetti looked at the opposing player located behind him, which means conclusively, he knew where the opposing player was located. For no apparent reason, Stefano Marchetti raised his stick up and behind him in a careless and dangerous manner, striking the opposing player directly in the head. Stefano Marchetti raised his stick with intent. The stick action can be deemed a slash, a spear or high stick. Regardless it is a dangerous action.

It is also deemed that the stick action occurred before the puck was in immediate area, eliminating the possibility of the stick action being a play at the puck. The stick action was certainly not in an effort to lift the opposing players stick. It is deemed with intent and careless.

Effective immediately, Stefano Marchetti is suspended for 2 game’s.
