ONE GAME SPUSPENSION FOR MARK SEVER (HKO)
Mark Sever of HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana got suspended for one game because of an incident deemed as Charging.
Mark Sever (#10) of HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana, time ~02:24,made contact with an opponent deemed as Charging, IIHF Rule 122. The video evidence was sent to the AHL Player SafetyCommittee (PSC), which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline – Category 1 – ‘Careless’ – insufficient attentionor thought to avoid harm or error. Liable to happen as a consequence of, by intending to affectan opponent through a reactionary or accidental motion or the incident is deemed careless causing negligence.
According to the Arbitratorand having considered the video evidence and ruling of the AHL PSC, player Mark Sever (#10) of HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana, will receive supplementary discipline under rule IIHF 122 – Charging.
Saturday night in Ljubljana, HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana forward #10 Mark Sever made an illegal check, deemed as charging, on S.G.Cortina Hafro D’Man #2 Nick Bruneteau.
As the video shows, Bruneteauis skating for a loose puck in the Cortina D’Zone.Bruneteaugained puck possession on his back hand and skating in a direction which had him turning to his right, up ice. It is important to note, the original battle for puck possession was between Bruneteauand LJU player #14 Martin Bohinc, who was skating directly behind Bruneteau.
The skating path of Bruneteaudid take him into the lane of Sever. Sever realizing this, took a quick step towards and skated directly at Bruneteauto make a defensive play. In making a defensive play, Sever delivered a check deemed as charging. Sever took advantage of a unsuspecting player, traveling a distance to deliver a body check in which he elevated and made excessive contact.
Sever is permitted to make a body check in this type of situation,however, he must avoid any form of elevation which may take his shoulder into the head area of an opposing player and avoid excessive contact on a player which is unsuspecting.
Effective immediately, Mark Sever (#10) of HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana is suspended for 1 game.
