Das Urteil im Originalworlaut

Kevin Tansey of HC TIWAG Innsbruck – Die Haie got suspended for two games because of an incident deemed as kneeing during Saturday’s bet-at-home ICE Hockey League game against the spusu Vienna Capitals.

Kevin Tansey (#6) of HC TIWAG Innsbruck – Die Haie, time approximately 23:32 was involved in an incident deemed as kneeing (IIHF Rule 152). The video evidence was sent to the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League PSC, which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline. According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League PSC, Kevin Tansey (#6) of HC TIWAG Innsbruck – Die Haie, will receive supplementary discipline under rule 152 – Kneeing.

On January 23rd in Innsbruck, a kneeing incident occurred involving HC Innsbruck player #6 Kevin Tansey on Vienna player #42 Alex Wall. No penalty was assessed by the on-ice officials. As the video shows, VIC – #42 Wall, with puck possession, enters the attacking zone and cuts cross ice to distribute a pass. HCI – #6 Tansey as the D’man, in reading the play, made a choice to ’step-up‘ on the play and make a body check. With this type of body check, timing is the critical point and in Tansey’s case, the timing was off, creating an illegal and dangerous incident.

The reason for supplementary discipline is the choice Tansey made in his timing and approach to the check, which lead directly to leg on leg contact, deemed illegal under kneeing. The PSC determined that Tansey appears to be wanting to make a hip check, which would be considered legal. Instead, Tansey was late in his approach, which did not allow his hip to rotate into proper position. Incidentally and immediately before contact, Tansey extended his right leg/knee directly into the path of oncoming VIC player Wall. The contact was majority leg to leg contact, which Tansey is deemed responsible for. It was also determined that although not the primary reason for supplementary discipline, the body check Tansey delivered was late, leaving Wall no option to anticipate or protect himself for this type of body check.

Effective immediately, Kevin Tansey (#6) of HC TIWAG Innsbruck – Die Haie is suspended for 2 games and fined 500.00 Euros.
