Das Original-Urteil:

Ivan Deluca of HC Pustertal Wölfe got suspended for two games and fined 400 Euros due to an incident deemed as Interference (IIHF Rule 56) in Friday’s home game against the spusu Vienna Capitals.

Ivan Deluca (#46) of HC Pustertal Wölfe, time 18:26 was involved in an incident deemed as Interference (IIHF Rule 56). The video evidence was sent to the win2day ICE Hockey League PSC, which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline – Category 1 – ‚Careless‘.
Friday night in Pustertal, Pustertal forward #46 Ivan Deluca was penalized with a 5 minute major and a game misconduct for or an incident on Vienna forward #96 Nikolaus Hartl, resulting in an apparent and reported injury.

As the video shows, Vienna has attacking zone puck possession, with Hartl receiving and then immediately releasing the puck towards the Pustertal net, while Deluca is on the back check. Then, well after the puck is gone and outside the parameters of when a check can be finished, Deluca delivers a late, hard, forceful check from a skating lane behind Hartl that results in an unsuspecting player receiving significant impact.

This in Interference.

It is important to note, players who are not in possession of the puck are never eligible to be checked. However, the Interference rule provides a brief window where a player who initiates a check while his opponent is in possession of the puck may finish the hit. This is not such a play. Here, Deluca begins his hitting motion after Hartl has released the puck and contact is made outside the window where a check maybe legally finished. In addition to the lateness, what causes this hit to rise to the level of supplementary discipline is the significant force to the upper body, combined with force of the blow. Deluca had a objectively reasonable window of opportunity to at least minimize or avoid this hit.

The ICE Hockey League Department of Player Safety has suspended Ivan Deluca for 2 games and fined 400.00 euros.

To summarize:

This is Interference
Late in delivering the check
Not a repeat offender
