Maximilian Preiml of the EC-KAC got suspended for two games and fined 400.00 euros due to an incident deemed as an Illegal Check to the Head or Neck (IIHF Rule 48) in the match against the spusu Vienna Capitals on Tuesday, October 1st.

Maximilian Preiml (#64) of EC-KAC, time 03:22 was involved in an incident deemed as an Illegal Check to the Head or Neck (IIHF Rule 48). The video evidence was sent to the win2day ICE Hockey League PSC, which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline – Category 1 – ‚Careless‘.

Tuesday night in Klagenfurt, Klagenfurt D’Man #64 Maximilian Preiml was involved in an incident deemed as a check to the head on Vienna forward #25 Jeremy Gregoire resulting in a 5-minute major penalty plus game-misconduct being assessed.

As the video shows, Gregoire receives a pass as the trailing player and immediately engages in a shooting motion. With Gregoire in a vulnerable position and cutting across ice, as a defensive play, Preiml delivers a hit that cuts across the front of Gregoire’s core, picking the head, making it the main point of contact, on a hit where head contact was avoidable.

This is an illegal check to the head.

It is important to note, both elements of a CTH rule are met on this play. 1st – the head is clearly the main point of contact of the hit, as Preiml’s shoulder makes direct and forceful contact with the head of Gregoire.
2nd – the head contact on this play is avoidable. Preiml takes an angle of approach that cuts across the front of Gregoire’s core and picks the head.
If Preiml wishes to deliver this check legally, he must take an angle that hits through the shoulder and core of Gregoire.

The ICE Hockey League Department of Player Safety has suspended Maximilian Preiml for 2 games and fined 400.00 euros.
