Michael Peter Sullmann Pilser (#7) of HC Gherdeina valgardena.it, time 16:27, made contact with an opponent deemed as Illegal Check to the Head or Neck, IIHF Rule 48. Based on the video evidence, it is determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline – Category 2 – `Reckless’–adeliberate and/or dangerous action with no concern for the result, with a conscious action to provoke, through intent and a willful purpose. Injury is not the determining factor but can be considered as influential means to the decision.

According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the AHL PSC, player Michael Peter Sullmann Pilser (#7) of HC Gherdeina valgardena, will receive supplementary discipline under rule 48 – Illegal Check to the Head or Neck.

On Thursday night, November 25th, in Gröden an incident occurred, deemed as Illegal checking to the Head or Neck. The incident was sent to the AHL PSC and determined worthy of supplementary discipline.

As the video shows, Michael Peter Sullemann Pilser gained puck possession, while in the attacking zone. After making a shot attempt, a turnover occurred, which altered the course of play. With Simon Kostner of Ritten gaining puck possession, Michael Peter Sullmann Pilser dropped down from the defense-man position
to make a play on Kostner, who was skating in the opposite direction and unaware of Michael Peter Sullmann Pilser approaching.

The reason for supplementary discipline, is in the course of making a check, Michael Peter Sullmann Pilser made significant contact with the head of Kostner. Instead of having a regard for the puck or making a legal body to body check, Michael Peter Sullmann Pilser elevated up and in, causing primary contact with the head of Kostner. Michael Peter Sullmann Pilser is entitled to make a body check in this type of circumstance, but he must be in a position to alter his approach to avoid head contact and instead make body to body contact. Kostner was able to continue play within the same game.
