Für Matthew Pelech hat die 2:3-Niederlage gegen den HC TWK Innsbruck ein Nachspiel. Der Graz99ers-Stürmer wurde vom DOPS wegen eines „kneeing incidents“ für vier Spiele gesperrt. Zusätzlich fasste Pelech in einer unabhängigen Situation eine Spieldauer-Disziplinarstrafe aus. Da es die zweite Strafe dieser Art für Pelech in dieser Saison war, führt dies automatisch zu einer Sperre eines zusätzlichen Spiels.
Der erste Vorfall ereignete sich in der 44. Minute beim Stand von 3:2, als Pelech einen gefährlichen Knie zu Knie Kontakt ausübte. Für dieses Vergehen wurde er vom DOPS für vier Spiele gesperrt. Zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt fasste Pelech seine zweite Spieldauer-Disziplinarstrafe in der Saison aus. Das führt zu einer weiteren automatischen Sperre von einem zusätzlichen Spiel. Pelech ist am 06.01.2017 gegen den EC-KAC wieder spielberechtigt.

After Friday’s game against the HC TWK Innsbruck, the 99ers defender Matthew Pelech got suspended by DOPS for four games because of a „kneeing incident“. In addition Pelech received in a seperat incident his 2nd Game Misconduct, which automatically leads to a suspension for an additional game.

According to the Arbitrator and after reviewing video evidence, player Matthew Pelech (#23) of Moser Medical Graz 99ers, time appr. 43:17, made contact with an opponent deemed as Kneeing IIHF Rule 153. As per the EBEL Fundamental Rules V. 5,1 (b), video evidence was sent to PSC(IDOPS) for a final verdict.
On December 23rd, at a game in Innsbruck, a kneeing incident occured involving Matthew Pelech. From the perspective of DOPS, it is clear that Matthew Pelech (#23) demonstrated a motion on the opposing player that is defined in the IIHF Rule Book as Kneeing. As the video shows, the opposing player gains possession of the puck and is making a slight left turn towards the high slot area of the attacking zone. As the opposing player maintains a consistent skating motion to his left, Matthew Pelech is approaching in a skating direction opposite of the opposing player. Knee on knee contact is made by Matthew Pelech. The kneeing action of Matthew Pelech was raised to supplementary discipline. Matthew Pelech was beat on the play and used a reactionary and dangerous action by extending his knee, creating a knee on knee contact. The opposing player did sustain an injury. The kneeing action is deemed reckless and dangerous.

From the perspective of DOPS and according to the EBEL Penalty Catalog Ref Nr. 120 – Kneeing, Matthew Pelech (#23) of Moser Medical Graz 99ers is suspended for 4 games, effective immediately and fined €1000.00.
In addition, Matthew Pelech (#23) received a Game Misconduct at a later point in the game in a seperate incident. The Game Misconduct is Matthew Pelech’s 2nd Game Misconduct during the 2016/17 EBEL Season. Under the EBEL Disciplinary Measures, a player who receives a 2nd Game Misconduct during the same season will automatically be suspended for an additional Game.
