On November 25th, in Innsbruck, an incident occurred involving Innsbruck player #28 Michael Boivin which is deemed a Slash. The slash by Michael Boivin was sent to the EBEL PSC and determined worthy of supplementary discipline. Due to a turnover, to an opposing player deep in the attacking zone, Michael Boivin is positioned well away from the play. A 2nd opposing player who entered the ice off a line change, had low slot positioning with no d’man coverage. The VIC player with puck possession notices his team mate open in the slot area and makes a pass. The reason for supplementary discipline, is Michael Boivin tried to minimize a scoring opportunity through the use of his stick in an illegal means. Michael Boivin began a wind-up swing with his stick while skating towards the opposing player. Michael Boivin had his right arm located approximately 1/3rd of the way down his stick when he began the wind-up. Through stick acceleration, the right hand slid up his stick, to a together approach creating a baseball like swing (to create force) with the stick. In addition, the location of the unsuspecting slash at the bottom hand of the shooter, causing an apparent injury, shows the slash was targeted. Effective immediately, Michael Boivin (#28) is suspended for 3 games and fined € 750.00.
