Das Original-Urteil
Luka Maver of the BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg got suspended for one game and fined 200,00 euros due to an incident deemed as Kneeing (IIHF Rule 50) in Sunday’s home game against spusu Vienna Capitals. The next game Maver is allowed to play is on October 28th against Innsbruck.

Luka Maver (#97) of BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg, time 55:42 was involved in an incident deemed as Kneeing (IIHF Rule 50). The video evidence was sent to the win2day ICE Hockey League PSC, which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline – Category 1 – ‚Careless‘.

Sunday night in Feldkirch, Feldkirch forward #97 Luka Maver was assessed a 5 minute Major and a Game-Misconduct for kneeing Vienna forward #70 Radek Prokes.

As the video shows, the puck is intercepted by Prokes as Feldkirch attempts a stretch pass, where puck possession is momentarily gained by Prokes. As Prokes attempts to cut into open ice, Maver approaches in a good defensive position. As he does so, Maver turns his leg and extends his leg outward, driving his knee into Prokes leg.

This is kneeing.

It is important to note that while Prokes is attempting to move around Maver on this play, this is not a case where an exceptionally sharp or sudden movement by a player receiving a hit, turns the potential for a full body check into leg on leg contact. Both players are moving slow enough that Maver has time to recognize that Prokes is changing positions and he responds to this, by thrusting his knee out wider in an attempt to get a piece of Prokes. While this is a common response in a last second attempt to get a piece of an opponent. On this play, the only piece of contact Maver is able to make is direct and forceful leg to leg contact. The saving portion of this hit, is the fact Prokes leg that received contact was not weight bearing, which provided a lesser injury than maybe received if the leg was weight bearing. If Maver wants to initiate contact on this play, he must ensure he is able to make more substantial upper body contact, rather than have the force of the blow concentrated on his opponents leg.

The ICE Hockey League Department of Player Safety has suspended Luka Maver for 1 game and fined 200.00 euros. In addition, for the duration of Luka Maver’s suspension BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg also loses one (1) spot for non-domestic players on the game sheet.

To summarize:
