Jean Philippe Lamoureux (#1) of EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV, time 56:00 was involved in an incident deemed as Slashing (IIHF Rule 61). The video evidence was sent to the win2day ICE Hockey League PSC, which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline – Category 1 – ‚Careless‘.
Thursday night in Pustertal, Villach goaltender #1 Jean Philippe Lamoureux was involved in an incident deemed as slashing on Pustertal forward #81 Anthony Bardaro resulting in a 2 minute penalty being assessed.
As the video shows, with Pustertal on the power play and a net front puck battle engages in front of the Villach net, both Lamoureux and Bardaro do come into contact, in pursuit of the puck. Immediately after and as plays leaves the Villach D’zone, in retaliation, Lamoureux deliberately swings his stick to hit Bardaro, striking him in the back of the leg.
This is slashing.
It is important to note, this is not a reckless, careless, or accidental use of the stick during play for a puck battle. Rather, this is a deliberate, retaliatory stick swing that strikes an opponent in a non-protected area. And although PSC acknowledges that stick actions occur throughout a game, there is sufficient force and targeting of the stick within the slash to merit supplementary discipline for what is deemed an intentional and retaliatory play.
The ICE Hockey League Department of Player Safety has suspended Jean Philippe Lamoureux for 1 game and fined 200.00 euros. In addition, for the duration of Jean Philippe Lamoureux’s suspension EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV also loses one (1) spot for non-domestic players on the game sheet.
