Zum Urteil in englischer Sprache:
Moser Medical Graz99ers defenseman Robin Weihager got suspended by DOPS for one game, because of Checking from Behind.
Robin Weihager (#7) of Moser Medical Graz99ers was involved in an incident deemed Checking from Behind (IIHF Rule 123) on Sunday, December 16th, 2018, time 58:39, in Bozen. The video evidence was sent to the EBEL Player Safety Committee (PSC), which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline – Category 1 – ‘Careless’.
According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the EBEL PSC, player Robin Weihager (#7) of Moser Medical Graz 99ers will receive supplementary discipline under rule 123 – Checking from behind.
On December 16th 2018 in Bozen, an incident occurred involving Graz player #7 Robin Weihager, which is deemed a Check from Behind. With the opposing player, #94-Daniel Frank in possession of the puck and skating through the neutral zone into the attacking zone, a check occurs that is deemed unsuspecting from behind, causing an apparent injury. The incident was sent to the EBEL PSC and determined supplementary discipline is required. As the video shows, Daniel Frank is a left hand shot. Daniel shifts his body position from forehand to back hand and positions himself in a stationary position slightly out from the boards, with his chest to the boards. It is felt Daniel Frank was in part the cause of backside contact, but not the primary cause. When Daniel Frank dumps the puck, Robin Weihager who has been following Daniel Frank from behind, into the Graz attacking zone, shifts his body to make a check through use of his shoulder (which is considered proper), but makes direct contact directly to the back #’s of the opposing player. The check is deemed recklessly endangering to a vulnerable player who is not aware of the impending hit and unable to protect himself. Robin Weihager has slight elevation through a wind up, which caused the back side contact to be above the pant line, causing the opposing player to go upper body and head leading (unable to protect himself) into the boards.
Effective immediately, Robin Weihager (#7) is suspended for 1 game and fined 250.00 Euros.
Key references:
– Directly from behind
– Did not alter or work to minimize backside contact
– Category 1 – ‚Careless‘
