Originalurteil Michael Halmo
ichael Halmo of HCB Südtirol Alperia was suspended for three games and has to pay a 750€ fee because of an incident deemed as Interference on Tuesday, December 22nd against the EC GRAND Immo VSV.

Michael Halmo (#91) of HCB Südtirol Alperia time approximately 55:27, was involved in an incident deemed as Interference (IIHF Rule 149). The video evidence was sent to the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League PSC, which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline – Category 2 – ‚Reckless‘.

According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League PSC, Michael Halmo (#91) of HCB Südtirol Alperia will receive supplementary discipline under IIHF rule 149 – Interference.

On December 22nd in Villach, an incident occurred involving Bozen player #91 Michael Halmo and Villach player #62 Patrick Bjorkstrand, which is deemed Interference. No penalty was assessed by the on-ice officials.

As the video shows, #91 Halmo appears upset at the game officials for an incident that previously occurred. With Halmo not in possession of his stick, he makes a choice to skate across ice, in the direction of his players bench. About the high slot area, it is clear that Halmo alters his skating direction, to what is assumed, in the direction of the VSV player in possession of the puck.

Approaching in the opposite skating direction of Halmo, is #62 Bjorkstrand, who is focused on the puck carrier and not aware of Halmo approaching in an on coming skating direction.

With both Halmo and Bjorkstrand skating at a relatively high speed towards each other, a forceful collision occurred. Based on the decision of the PSC, Halmo is deemed responsible. The contact that occurred is deemed interference. Significant head contact to Bjorkstrand did occur as a result of the collision, causing an apparent injury.

The PSC decision is based on Halmo making a choice to initially skate in the direction of his players bench and unimpeded, altered his skating lane. Halmo appears to brace for and prepare for contact immediately before contact is made. Halmo is also considered responsible for his actions, accidental or not, and in this case, Halmo’s right shoulder making direct head contact with Bjorkstrand with an apparent injury.

Disciplinary action is required. With consideration that Bjorkstrand was unaware of his skating lane and may have lead to part of the reason for the collision. Consideration regarding Halmo was that it is not conclusive that the collision was intentional, which if deemed intentional would be a significant higher game suspension amount.

Effective immediately, Michael Halmo (#91) of HCB Südtirol Alperia is suspended for 3 games and fined 750.00 Euros.
